A quick start with 10 first half three pointers got the Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball a 101-56 win over the University of Texas – Tyler Thursday in American Southwest Conference action.
The 100 point game the Lady Jackets first since January 17, 2008 in a 102-22 win over Texas Lutheran University.
The Lady Jackets started the game with a 15-2 run and never looked back. Howard Payne shot over 60 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes.
A Tiffany Warner three point shot ended the half as time expired extending the Lady Jacket lead to 26, 51-25. As a team in the first half, Howard Payne was 10-15 from beyond the arc and shot 58 percent from the field overall.
Howard Payne matched their season average of 67 points a game with 12 minutes remaining with 30 point lead, 67-37. The Lady Jackets lead reached 40 points, 96-56, with one minute remaining.
All 13 players on the HPU women roster got on the score card. Four players finished with double digits- Elaine Hobbs 14, Katy Sarem 15, Jasmin Thomas 10, and Courtney Bolding 10. Just short of double digits was Clarissa Krum with 9 points and a game high 7 rebounds.
The Lady Jackets shot 59 percent from the arc for the game, making 10 three pointers in the first and 3 in the second. The Patriots were only 18-59 from the field for 31 percent.
The Lady Jackets move up to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the American Southwest Conference action. UT-Tyler falls to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Howard Payne’s next game is on the road Jan. 14 at Concordia University at 5:30 pm.
