The Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team paralyzed the Sul Ross State University Lady Lobos 89-37 Saturday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The 52 point victory over Sul Ross State is the largest margin of victory since Feb. 21, 2008 when the Lady Jackets defeated Texas Lutheran 88-34, a 54 point margin.
Four Lady Jackets ended the game with double digits. Clarissa Krum and Roshonda Gayden led all with 16 points each. Gayden also had 6 rebounds. Seniors Hope Hohertz and Elaine Hobbs had 11 and 10 points respectively.
Hobbs also had 4 steals and Brittany Zamora finished with a game-high 6 assists.
The Lady Jackets opened the game up with a 15 point lead, 17-2, just 7 minutes into the game. By the end of the first half the Howard Payne lead had doubled to 30, 44-14.
Five minutes into the second half, the Lady Jackets outscored Sul Ross 15-6 to increase their lead to 39, 59-20. The lead hit the 50-point mark only three minutes later, 70-20. Howard Payne went on to post the 89-37 win.
Sul Ross State was led by Liz Pereyra with 10 points and 5 rebounds. No other Lady Lobo was in double digits.
The HPU women improve to (7-0) overall and (5-0) in the ASC. Sul Ross falls to (1-7) overall and (1-4) in the ASC.
The Lady Jackets next game is on Dec. 19 in Pineville, Louisiana against Louisiana College 5:30pm.
