ABILENE, Texas – Despite getting a career high 35 points from sophomore Brittany Zamora, the Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team falls to Hardin-Simmons University 90-78 Thursday evening.
Hardin-Simmons shot 53% from the field while holding Howard Payne to just 36%. The Lady Jackets were also outrebounded 50-28 in the game.
After Howard Payne held an 8 point lead midway through the first half, Hardin-Simmons rallied back to take a 45-43 halftime lead. It stayed close throughout the rest of the game with Hardin-Simmons in the end winning 90-78.
Brittany Zamora scored a career high 35 points on 12 of 24 shooting. Elaine Hobbs added 12 points followed by Roshonda Gayden with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Hardin-Simmons had five players finish in double-digits led by Alexis Poplar with 19 and Becky Taylor with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard Payne now stands at 15-5 overall and 13-5 in ASC play. Hardin-Simmons is 12-10 overall and 10-8 in ASC action.
Howard Payne will be in Abilene again on Saturday against McMurry University at 1:00 pm.
