HPUlogoSEGUIN, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets used a 40-14 run over the final five minutes of the first half and the first eight minutes of the second half to defeat the Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team 86-74 Saturday.

In TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium, Howard Payne led 26-24 with 4:57 left in the first half. By the 12:14 mark of the second half, the Lady Jackets lead ballooned to 28 points, at 66-38. 

The Lady Jackets kept the lead in the 17 to 22 range up until the final 40 seconds when the Bulldogs hit three three-pointers and cut the margin to 12 near the final buzzer.
HPU kept hold of second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division. The Lady Jackets moved to 17-4 overall and to 13-4 in the ASC. TLU dropped to 11-9 overall and to 10-7 in the ASC West.

Katy Sarem and Clarissa Krum led HPU in scoring. Each player scored 16. Hope Hohertz added 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Elaine Hobbs collected eight points and 11 rebounds.

TLU received 22 points from Kimberly Hagan and 21 from Jennifer Munoz.

Howard Payne will be on the road again next week in Abilene against Hardin-Simmons on Thursday and McMurry on Saturday.
