jacketbasketball_logoThe Howard Payne Lady Jacket basketball team defeated Concordia University Texas 67-53 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday night. 

Howard Payne jumped out to an early 16 points lead at 26-10 with 8:33 left in the first half. Concordia battled back and the Lady Jackets held a 32-25 halftime lead. 

Shooting 34% from the field in the second, the Lady Jackets had trouble pulling away from Concordia. HPU had key defensive stops down the stretch and held on for the 67-53 win. 

Hope Hohertz led the Lady Jackets with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. Roshonda Gayden came off the bench with a double double, 10 points and 10 rebounds. Elaine Hobbs had 11 points and 5 steals. Clarissa Krum added 10.

Concordia was led by Skylar Lott with a game high 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting with 11 rebounds. Kerrie Carter followed with 13 points. 

Howard Payne improves to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in ASC action. Concordia falls to 5-9, 3-7 in ASC play. 

Howard Payne will be in Belton on Saturday to play the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1:00 pm.
