jacketbasketball_logoHoward Payne hit six of its seven shots, including two three-pointers, in overtime and survived a furious second-half rally by Texas Lutheran to post a 101-93 win Saturday. 

The Yellow Jackets led the majority of the game with their biggest lead coming with 10:03 remaining in the game, 62-47.

The Bulldogs trailed by eight with four minutes to go. TLU’s Henry Flores scored 10 points in the final three minutes as the Bulldogs rallied to tie, 83-83.

Howard Payne dominated overtime hitting six of its seven shots, including three-pointers by John Bryant and Keith Perry. 

HPU moved to 6-15 overall and to 6-11 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. The loss dropped the TLU Bulldogs to 6-15 overall and to 4-13 in the ASC West.

Brandon Irwin led HPU with 22 points and six assists. Keith Perry added 21 points, five assists and four blocks. John Bryant also had a career high 21 points. Quentin Calloway chipped in 19. Kanyon Payne grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.

TLU received 26 points from Henry Flores and 19 from Michael Flores. Isaac Williams added 18, and Malcolm Dotson scored 14. 

The Jackets play on the road again next week in Abilene against Hardin-Simmons on Thursday and McMurry on Saturday.
