The Howard Payne Yellow Jacket baseball team finished out their season with a split with American Southwest Conference opponent Schreiner University Saturday afternoon. The Jackets lost game on 8-2 but won game two 11-3 to finish the season.
In game one, the Jackets allowed two runs in the first and four more in the second. HPU cut the lead in half in the top of the second, 2-1, but Schreiner took control in their half of the inning scoring four. The Jackets added another run in the fourth then SU scored its final two runs that inning to bring the final to 8-2.
Senior Kyle Lloyd, Will Garlick, and Nick Loving finish with two hits in the game. Will Hood got tabbed with the loss for the Jackets.
The second game was the opposite of the first as the Yellow Jackets scored five times in the first three innings and were never really threatened. Kyle Lloyd and Jordan Godby each record three hits in the game for HPU. Johnathan Morris got the win for HPU throwing 8 innings and giving up just 2 runs on 8 hits. Michael Nicholson took the loss for Schreiner.
Seniors Chance Massey, Tray Wegenhoft, and Ramiro Garza III got to finish out their careers on the mound throwing one out each in the final inning.
Howard Payne ends their season at 19-21 overall, a six game improvement for the Jackets overall last season. Schreiner finishes at 8-32 on the year.
