DALLAS, Texas – The Howard Payne University baseball team took both games of a double header against Dallas Christian College 7-2 and 11-0 in non-conference action Monday afternoon.
In game one, it remained scoreless till the top of the 4th when Howard Payne put up four runs. Jordan Hammontree scored on an error by the catcher. Carlton Brown had a sacrifice fly to center field to score Taylor Zambreski. Then consecutive doubles by Will Garlick and Ryan Abbott brought in two more Jackets runs.
Howard Payne added three more runs in the 6th with Jake Dean scoring on a fielder’s choice and an Abbott with a two-run home-run to right center. Jackets won 7-2.
Jonathan Morris got the win for HPU throwing 3.0 innings giving up 5 hits and no runs. Evan Henson got three innings in relief giving up just one hit and striking out four. Chance Massey saw one inning of work; he allowed two hits and two runs.
Game two was all HPU as well with the Jackets scoring in the first four innings of the game. HPU big inning was the 4th posting four runs. Abbott hit his second home-run on the day in that inning, a three-run shot to right center. HPU run ruled Dallas Christian College 11-0 at the end of the 5th.
Reed Klose got the win for Howard Payne throwing 3.0 innings and allowing just two hits. Will Hood and Trey Horton also saw one inning each in relief.
The Jackets improve to 15-14 overall while Dallas Christian falls to 6-24 on the year. Howard Payne will be in Abilene next weekend against McMurry University.
