HPUlogoALPINE, Texas – The Howard Payne baseball team found themselves down early but rallied to defeat Sul Ross State 5-2 in American Southwest Conference action Friday evening.

The Yellow Jackets produced an 11-hit performance with four RBIs, while starting pitcher Jonathan Morris and Robert Anders held Sul Ross State to just four total hits in the game. The Lobos sported their two runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run homerun to left field.

Howard Payne tied the game with one-run outings in the fifth and sixth then took the go ahead in the seventh with a pair of scores. The Jackets added insurance in the top of the eighth before snuffing a Sul Ross comeback to spot the 5-2 victory. 

The Jackets improve to 12-10 overall and 3-4 in ASC action while Sul Ross State falls to 12-9,4-2 in ASC play. Both teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at 1:00 pm.
