HOBBS, New Mexico – The Howard Payne baseball team took two out three games from the University of the Southwest this Monday and Tuesday.
Howard Payne won game one of the three game series 7-5. Jonathan Morris got the win for HPU and Robert Anders posted the save. Jordon Hammondtree and Brian Cunningham were 3 of 5 in the game at the plate.
HPU picked up game two of the series on Tuesday 8-4. Will Hood pitched solid from the mound and posted the win for the Jackets.
The Jackets fell in game three 2-12 with Billy Ray Cruz getting tagged with the loss.
“The key to our two wins was our pitching,” said head coach Stephen Lynn. “This was a good hitting USW team and taking the series will give us some confidence going into conference play later on”
Howard Payne improves to 2-2 on the year and the University of the Southwest now stands at 4-5 overall.
The Jackets will play next on the road in a three games series with the University of Dallas in Irving on Friday and Saturday.
