Brown County Fair Association (BCFA) announced that Barbara Boyd Stewart has been chosen as the 2011 rodeo parade grand marshal. Barbara has been involved with the BCFA since 1973 where she has served in many different capacities through the years both on and off the board of directors.
Barbara was born in Brown County and is proud to say that three of her four grandchildren are the fifth generation to be raised in Brown County. Barbara’s family includes daughter Tammy Stewart Barr, husband Mike and their son Jonathan. Daughter Vannessa Stewart, husband John Gordon and their children Beale Madison, Vance Cady, and John Stewart.
Barbara retired from Verizon in 1989 and then purchased First Travel Service which she operated for over 20 years.
Other activities and organizations she has been involved with include the Boys and Girls Club, Early EDC, Early Chamber, Brownwood Chamber, and Woman’s Club. She also served over 15 years on the Early ISD Board of Trustees and on the Early City Council. Most recently, Barbara was recognized by the Girls Scouts of Central Texas as a Woman of Distinction.
She is a graduate of May High School, attended Howard Payne University, and is a member of Early First Baptist Church.
The 48th annual Brown County Rodeo parade will kick off at 10am Saturday, June 11th and will travel through downtown Brownwood starting at the Brownwood Coliseum. Registration forms for entries in the parade are still available at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce or on their website at
