Memorial Services for Barbara Ruth Eldred, age 76, of Brownwood, will be held Wednesday June 20, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with John Berkling officiating. Barbara passed away Wednesday June 06, 2012 at a local nursing home in Early, Texas. Barbara was born on June 20, 1935 in Brushy Mountain, Oklahoma, 8 miles out of Sallisaw; to Ben and Emma (Quinton) Webb.
Barbara was half Cherokee Indian and a very strong, independent woman. She enjoyed reading and politics; and spent most of her life involved with the Democratic Party. She was well known for being a community activist, and attended numerous churches throughout the Brownwood area. She was a firm believer in people’s rights, especially their right to vote. Barbara loved spending time with her grandchildren and believed that they sustained her life. Barbara was a cheerleader at Dos Palos High School. She attended Fresno State on a scholarship in Journalism.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Dana Smith of Early; 1 son, David Eldred of Santa Cruz, California; 6 grandchildren, Jenevive Harper of Alabama, Jared Smith and wife Heather of Brownwood, Jody Smith of Brownwood, Jake Eldred, Nick Eldred, and Lindsey Eldred of California; 5 great-grandchildren; Lani Harper, Damion Smith, Cody Smith, Kaleb Smith, and Serinity Meyer; 2 sisters; Bathus Roberts of California, Racheal Baker of Washington; 1 brother, Ben Webb Jr. of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barbara is preceded in death by her loving parents, Ben and Emma Webb; 4 sisters, Jerri Ivanhoe, Mary Raney, Maydene Phillips, and Ima Barton; 2 brothers, Sonny Webb and Ed Webb. Condolences may be left for the family at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com
