At a special called meeting Monday night, the Bangs City Council took no action on filling the vacant mayor position, leaving Mayor Pro-tem Waymond Shepherd acting mayor until the next general election in May of 2011. Bangs Mayor Martin Molotsky submitted a letter of resignation on July 15th which was accepted by the city council last week.
Molotsky stated in his resignation letter, “I wish not to go into detail but I feel that I do not want to be a part of the events that are soon to unfold in the next year or two with the City.”
The council’s other options were to appoint someone to fill the position or declare a special election to be held in November. In other business, the council discussed the process for hiring a city administrator and appointed a selection committee for that purpose consisting of council members Carroll Wells and Eric Bishop, public works director Johnny Curry and Bangs Police Chief Butch Lawson. The committee will work with Jim Rooney, a business consultant from Brady, to determine a job description for the city administrator. Rooney said they had already received several resumes.
The council also approved a request from Brandy Clark of the bangs ex-student association to allow alcohol at the street dance on September 11 and approved a request from Jean Mindieta of the bangs nursing home to have a dog show at the city park on August 21.
