If you looked at the sign behind the Bangs Dragons’ dugout at their home field, you would probably notice that despite all of their success they had never been to the state tournament. That all changed on Saturday at Hunter Field.
The Dragons entered Saturday’s match-up with Wall only needing one win to lock up a birth in the state tournament. A good start against the Hawks’ ace would help that happen.
Bangs struck first with after a shot to center field by Aaron Keller. Wall’s Grant Ewbanks would make a great over-the-shoulder grab, but at the same time J.T. Newton would tag and score from third base.
At that point the Dragons led 1-0.
A short time later, Chuy Alvarado would come to the plate and smack one past the short stop. That would allow Cameron Deal to score, and the Dragons would take a 3-0 lead in the first.
After a 1-2-3 inning by Newton, the Dragons would once again get the bats going in the second inning.
This time it would Josh Beckwith who would knock in Newton for another run, and extend the Dragons lead to 4-0.
From there the Dragons would cruise to a 10-1 victory, and lock-up their first appearance in the state tournament which will be held Wednesday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
