Brownwood emergency responders worked back-to-back traffic accidents at the Traffic T on Monday evening ending with a damaged fire truck.

The accidents began shortly before 5:00 p.m. with a pickup truck pulling a flat bed trailer colliding with a Dodge Avenger in the intersection of Main Street and Commerce.  The driver of the Avenger stated that he was making a protected left hand turn onto Clement Street when the pickup truck travelled through the intersection.  The driver of the Avenger stated that he attempted to brake but collided with the trailer, which caused significant front-end damage to the vehicle and caused the air bags to deploy.

As law enforcement and firefighters worked the scene of this accident, cleaning up the debris and collecting information, a Freightliner 18-wheeler pulling a flatbed trailer came toward the Brownwood Fire Department’s Rescue 1; however, it made the turn sharply to miss hitting Rescue 1 and struck the rear passenger side corner of the Fire Department’s Quint 1, said the driver of the Avenger.  The corner of the fire truck suffered damage from the impact as pictured below.   All firefighters were out of Quint 1 and no injuries were reported.

Traffic was backed up in the westbound lanes of Commerce at the intersection while it was cleared.  The Avenger was towed from the scene and all other vehicles were able to be driven away from the accident.

Brownwood Police Department, Brownwood Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Allegiance Ambulance responded to the accident.

Pictured above is the damaged Avenger.  Below are more photos of the accident scene.
