Brownwood Animal Control Officer Nick Ferguson was called to the 500 block of E. Adams Street, where a young owl was found abandoned and later rescued (pictured left).
According to Ferguson, an employee of a nearby business found the owl and worried about its welfare called animal control. Ferguson was able to throw a net over the owl and carefully capture it. The young bird was turned over to Texas Parks and Wildlife officers who will coordinate its placement in a rehabilitation facility until it is old enough to be released on its own into the wild.
Although Ferguson could not verify the age of the owl, it was determined to be a Great Horned Owl which was too young to survive on its own.
Reflecting back on one of Ferguson’s recent captures, a cobra at a residence in Brownwood, he stated this was a much better circumstance.
“I’d much rather deal with an owl any day,” stated Ferguson with a smile.
