Avis, lovingly known as “Aggie”, was born on April 28, 1919 in Elbow Lake, Minnesota to the late Anna Katherine Whitbeck and Merinaus Nelson. She was married to her beloved husband Cullie in 1940 and moved to Texas soon thereafter. Cullie and Aggie spent most of their life together in Graham, Texas. Her final 15 years were enjoyed in Brownwood, surrounded by her daughters and their families.

Above all, Aggie is remembered for her love for the Lord and her family. Avis was the mother we were proud to call our mom and the grandmother we couldn’t wait to spend time with. Her strong, consistent faith in Jesus Christ was foundational to her own life and to the family that she sustained. She will be remembered for years of service to her church family, extraordinary ability as a seamstress and cook, amazing generosity, and devotion and witness to her family.

Aggie was preceded in death by her husband, Cullie Like, son-in-law Glenn Sparks, and grandson Troy Keith Clark, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Roxie Sparks of Brownwood as well as her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Keith Clark of Brownwood. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tonda Sparks, Shawntay & Jason Hubbard, Nelson & Claudia Sparks, Kylah & Sam Goff, and Cullen and Kara Clark as well has her great grandchildren Noah Sparks, Ava Sparks-Hansen, Mo and Madeleine Goff, Elizabeth Clark, and her dear friend Dena Matheson.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff of Oakridge Manor, Brownwood Regional Medical Center 4E, and Lighthouse Hospice. Thank you for all the love, care, and dignity with which you served our family.
