Avis Embrey King, 84, of Brownwood, Texas went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, May 15th. She was born January 12, 1948 to Sam and Mary Embrey in Malakoff, TX and was raised and attended school in Indian Gap, TX. She later met and married the love of her life, Edward King, Jr. on October 2, 1948 in Brownwood, TX. Together they raised three loving children and worked hand in hand for forty years in the family business, Kings Food Market. A faithful Christian, Avis was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Avis enjoyed baking, yard work and working alongside of her husband and son in their business. She loved visiting with the customers and watching their children and grandchildren grow up. She devoted her life to her family and loved it best when she was doting on her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Avis is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sylvia Wilson; brothers, Sam Embrey, Bill Embrey; and a precious grandchild, Russell King.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward L. King; two sons, Edward King III and his wife Judy of Abilene, TX, Charles R. King and his wife Becky of Brownwood; a daughter, Susan Copeland and her husband Luther of Stephenville, TX; eight grandchildren: Joe Steiber, Ryan King, Rob King, Trevin King, Jennifer Gauer, Cody Copeland, Dr. Lance Cotton, Lindy Garret and seven great-grandchildren.
Avis was a faithful wife, loving mother and friend to many. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends and hundreds of customers who will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 17th at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave, Brownwood. The funeral will be held in the Chapel of Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Friday, May 18th at 2:00 PM with graveside services to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
