Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs released August sales tax allocation numbers this week showing an increase for all Brown County cities.
The City of Brownwood was up 7.85% in sales tax for the month compared to August of last year. Early was up slightly with 0.32% as compared to the same month last year. Blanket saw a jump of 9.79% from the same period in 2013 and Bangs was also up by 14.50%.
Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their August local sales tax allocations totaling $706.9 million, up 5.3 percent compared to August 2013.
“The growth in sales tax revenues reflected strength in both business and consumer spending,” Combs said. “The increase was led by remittances from the construction, services, and oil and natural gas-related sectors, as well as from retail trade and restaurants. Fiscal year-to-date, state sales tax collections are now up 5.3 percent.”
The August sales tax allocation figures represent monthly sales made in June as well as April, May and June sales by businesses that report tax quarterly.
