August “Pete” Pope, age 74, of Brownwood passed away November 21, 2014, in Abilene.
Pete was born January 3, 1940, to Everett and Ann Pope in Ballinger, Texas. Pete married Helen Whitlock on January 24, 1963, in Las Cruces, N.M. He was a longtime resident of Brownwood and worked for the Brownwood Waste Water Treatment Facility before retiring as manager from the Richland Springs Water Treatment Plant. Pete loved building hot rods, pulling trucks, and taking care of his cows.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen; his 3 daughters, Sheila Tedder and husband Tim of Bonham, Sandra Franklin and Johnny Garcia of Brownwood, Heather Downs and husband Jason of Lake Hills; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his brother, T.D. Pope and wife Sue of San Angelo; and a sister, Barbara Reeves and husband Larry of N.M. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ann Pope.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Barnum officiating, interment will follow in Jordan Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday evening at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
