Approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, a female came into the police department and reported that she had just been assaulted by her boyfriend who had stuck a knife to her side and stated that he was going to stab her and cut her throat, reported Mercer. As they arrived home, the victim was able to escape from Hays and went to Early Police Department, Mercer stated. Officers went to the residence in the 200 block of Morning Dove in Early, where the suspect refused to open the door, according to Mercer. The residence was able to be opened by officers who had obtained a key from the victim. Hays was found hiding inside and was placed under arrest for aggravated assault with a dealdly weapon, interfere with emergency call and for endangering a child. The knife used in the assault was also found at the residence, reported Mercer.
