On Sunday afternoon, the Early Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a large fight that was taking place in the Bluebonnet Mobile Home Park off of Hwy 183 N.
Early Police Officer Johnny Brown was first on the scene and reported that seven people had been involved in a fight armed with an assortment of weapons. Brown advised that he had all seven people on the ground at gunpoint to control the situation with one man severely injured and needing medical assistance.
Sheriff’s deputies and other law enforcement arrived to hold the men and investigate the incident.
According to Sheriff’s reports, the injured man had a large cut that started at the top of his shoulder and went down to his ribs. He was transported to the emergency room for treatment.
Law enforcement noted several items on the ground including a pool stick, tire iron, and a knife. Two other men involved in the fight had injuries including a cut hand and a bloody nose according to Sheriff’s reports.
Sheriff’s investigator Scott Bird said that the fight stemmed from an ongoing altercation between two of the men over a girlfriend.
In the course of the investigation at the scene, it was determined that 31-year-old Joe Leon Martinez was believed responsible for severe cut on one of the victims. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation.
The injured man who was admitted to the hospital was released on Tuesday morning.
