Brownwood News – The Arts Council of Brownwood will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Friday evening, May 5th, from 5 to 10 p.m. in the streets of Historic Downtown Brownwood near the Lyric Theatre. There will be food and craft vendors, pinatas and free activities for children, an area for dancing, artists, and a photo booth, along with local vendors. There is no cost to attend the celebration and all performances inside the Lyric Theater are also free of charge.

The México 2000 Ballet Folklórico will be performing inside the Lyric Theater at 5:30 and again at 7:30 p.m., presenting regional traditional Mexican dance. Presentations are fast-paced; nonstop with 2 to 10 different dance regions, from the hot and humid climate in the southeast, the traditional northern dances with their Czechoslovak, Poland, French influence and the Pre-Columbian dances still preserve in these days.

México 2000 Ballet Folklórico and México 2000 Folklórico Dance School have been in existence since 1998 and teaches an average of 120 students each year, focusing on teaching and performing regional traditional Mexican dance.

México 2000 has competed since year 1999 in Folklórico Dance Competitions in Dallas, Corpus Christi, Houston & Lubbock in Texas as well in Los Angeles, New York and Colorado obtaining more than 300 awards in all categories. Also had received more than 35 local and state proclamations from city Mayors and a Texas Governor. México 2000 Ballet Folklórico has been part of Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster since 2003 and received the American Masterpieces designation in 2009 from the NEA.

Mariachi Los Toros will be performing inside the Lyric Theater at 6:30 and again at 8:30 p.m. Since their inception in August 2012, Mariachi Los Toros quickly gained a large following – being recognized for their energetic and engaging performances. The group brings a great amount of combined experience with some of their members having performed in all parts of Mexico, sharing the stage and accompanying some of the country’s greatest artists.
