Funeral Services for Arthur “Art” Been, age 76, of Brookesmith, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 12, 2010 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Wells officiating, interment to follow in Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Been passed away Friday December 10, 2010 in Brookesmith.
Arthur was born on October 11, 1934 in New Model, Oklahoma to Arthur Lee Been and Nellie (Lewis) Been. He attended and graduated from Odessa High School and went on to marry Shirley Gentry in 1954 in Odessa, Texas. He worked as a supervisor at El Paso Products in El Paso and was enlisted in the Navy Reserve for many years. Arthur was an active member of the Brookesmith Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. One of the things he loved to do was coach summer youth baseball, which he did for 12 years in Odessa as well as being active in church activities there.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Shirley Been of Brookesmith; son, Terry Been and wife Robin of Brookesmith; grandchildren, Lacey Been, Dr. Kristi Been-Hallum and husband Lance, and Kelby Been; great grandchildren, Whitley Been and Brenden Been; a brother, Reverend Floyd Been; and a sister, Mildred Dancer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Monty Been.
