A retrospective exhibit of the paintings of the late Ima Gem Queen will featured in an opening Sunday, October 28 at the Brownwood Art Association’s Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue, from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Approximately 90 paintings will be on view for this event.
Ima Gem, an early member of the Art Association, was a very versatile and accomplished artist. She was equally proficient in oil, pastel and watercolor. She studied with a number of well-known artists; she especially enjoyed the workshops conducted by William Henry Earl, Kay Franklin, Carole Sudderth Pyburn and Paul Friske.
Ima Gem Queen was born October 21, 1916 and passed away September 10, 2011. Through the years she served in virtually every office of the Art Association. She presided as president from 1979 through 1981. She especially enjoyed being editor of the Palette Rag, the association’s newsletter.
Additional hours to view the exhibit will be each Tuesday and Thursday through November 17, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
