ArtAssociationLogoThe Brownwood Art Association will host their monthly “evening of art” event and reception on Thursday, August 2nd from 5-8pm at the Brownwood Art Center.

The event will showcase work by local artists along with a wine reception.  This event takes place the first Thursday of each month to give local artists a venue to show off their talent.

“This will be an ongoing project”, Brownwood Art Association president Melanie Naylor said.  “Each month, the public can enjoy an evening of art, wine, and cheese and visit with other art lovers.”

The events will feature different artwork from art association members, and selected pieces of art featured will be available to purchase.

The Brownwood Art Center is located 215 Fisk Avenue, Brownwood.

The Brownwood Art Association was founded in February 22, 1927 when Mrs. W.R. Roberts called area artists together to organize the Brownwood Art League, which later became the Brownwood Art Association. At the time, few small towns in Texas had developed any organized interest in art or artists, but in Brownwood artists of national reputation, such as Adele Brunet, Harry Anthony DeYoung, Xavier Gonzales, Dwight Holmes, came to conduct classes on a regular basis.

Today, the Association provides scholarship funds to aid area university students who are majoring in art, and they donate art related books to the public library as memorials. Members also provide demonstrations in ceramics and portrait and landscape painting for area schools and serve as judges for area art shows. Many members donate their time to organize and put on the annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit and student exhibitions, as well as the Association’s member exhibits. A weekly painting session of still-life and live models, which is sponsored by the association, is open to the public and is well attended, as are workshops taught by artists from Brownwood and other cities.
