The Brownwood Art Association will feature the work of Carolyn Hancock during a special reception to be held at the Art Building at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 5th as part of their monthly First Thursday schedule. The First Thursday reception is free of charge, and the public is encouraged to come and enjoy this artist’s outstanding work. Carolyn Hancock’s art will remain on display for the month of November in the Art Building.

Carolyn Hancock is an award-winning artist noted for the expression and color that flows across her portrait and figurative paintings. She paints exclusively in pastel, and her work is said to glow with vibrancy in a painterly, impressionistic way.

A Gulf Coast native now living in Richmond, Texas, Hancock remains influenced by the cultures and colors of her international travel. She has exhibited in solo exhibitions in Texas and group exhibitions throughout the southeast USA, Saudi Arabia, and Japan. An Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America, she is President of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas.

Her painting “I Wonder” received the 2014 Purchase Award of The Woodlands High School Art Trust Foundation. She received First Place/Portraits in the Austin Pastel Society 2006 juried exhibition and the F&W Publications Award in the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas 2005 juried exhibition. Her painting “A Technicolor Day” was chosen as the cover for a book written by Dr. Joe Allen Rice.

She was included in the Best of America Pastel Artists, a showcase of American paintings, published in 2009. Her travel series was exhibited at The Nave, Victoria Regional Museum, in 2005. Her paintings of the Maasai/Samburu people of Kenya, Africa, have received first place awards and are in international collections.
