cathietylerThe Brownwood Art Association will host a free class on Saturday, November 12th, from 1:30-3 p.m. Guest teacher Cathie Tyler will present a demonstration entitled “Getting the Color You Want.”

There is no fee to attend the class and the public is encouraged to attend.

The class will cover information about color that will be helpful for artists working in all media containing pigment. Along with the talk there will be a demonstration in oil with an emphasis on “catching the light.”

Tyler is an accomplished artist, working in watercolor, oils, drawing, as well as mixed media. Her normal subject matter is central Texas landscapes.

According to the bio on her website, Cathie Tyler is a third generation artist, and has always had painting in her life. Her grandmother, Lulu McLean, was an active landscape painter in Colorado Springs from the 1930s through the early 50s. Lillian Tyler, the artist’s mother, learned the rudiments of oil painting from Lulu while her husband was overseas. She continued to paint after the family moved to El Paso and then later to Paris, Texas. Lillian spent the last twenty years of her life working on a series of paintings based on Bible verses from the book of Revelations.

Tyler recently moved to the heart of Texas where she has created a “spacious, light-filled” studio. Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in public and private museums and galleries as well as invitational and juried competitions throughout Texas and many other states. Her works are in private, corporate and educational collections. For more information on the artist, visit her website: www.cathietyler.net
