Brownwood News – The Brownwood Art Association recently announced several events scheduled for the month of September. The community is invited to attend the events, several of which have no cost to join.

 

 

The September exhibit celebrates the work of Larry Bridges. With more than 30 years experience, Larry Bridges realistically captures and accurately preserves nostalgic subjects, landmarks, and period settings. He offers lithographic prints of pen and ink drawings, as well as the originals. They are available in black and white or hand watercolored, and framed. Also, he executes pen and ink drawings and watercoloring on a commission basis.
As a former member of the Texas Wild Bunch Professional Artists Association, an elite group of Texas full-time professional artists, his art has been displayed at invitation-only shows, galleries, museums, and fine art festivals. Larry has been showing as a full-time artist since 1985 and has received First Place and Best of Show awards.
Larry attended Texas Tech University where he studied Advertising Art & Design. He is well-versed in fashion and commercial advertising, as evidenced during employment with the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as an Advertising Account Executive. Also, as the owner/operator of an advertising agency, he conceptualized, designed, and produced ads for leading retail accounts.

The Muse & Merlot selection for the month of September will be “Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son” by Claude Monet.

The session will be held on will be held Friday, September 14th, from 7 to 9 p.m. Seats are $30 per person. Seating is limited to 30 people (No Holds). All participants will be supplied with the needed items to create their own 16×20 masterpiece.

For the September Demonstration, Robert Stacks will show us how he makes handcrafted pieces using a scroll saw. ​The event is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Brownwood Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue. There is no cost to attend the demonstration.

The Brownwood Art Association continually offers a variety of events and classes for the community:

  • People Painters Live Drawing Group meets on Wednesdays at the Art Center to sketch, or paint live models. The group is open to the general public, free of charge. Sessions are held every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. if a model has been scheduled. For more information, please email jkirksey12@verizon.net.
  • The BAA Photography Group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. and is open to photographers at any level, no camera equipment is required. The group is free to join and is focused on the love of photography. Mentors are available for amateur photographers looking to improve their abilities.
  • The Brownwood Art Association is partnered with A.M.P. (Art, Music, People) to host a monthly Open Mic Night for the community on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Artists are welcome to come and create throughout the evening. Open Mic Night begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. at the Art Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
