Area fire departments were kept busy Wednesday responding to a pair of unrelated grass fires.
Late Wednesday morning, crews responded to Torres Lane to a grass fire. Bangs Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Bridge VFD, Lake Dam VFD, Early VFD and the Brownwood Fire Department all responded to the scene. No word on the cause of that fire.
Approximately 3:00pm, a second grass fire was reported in the 11000 block of County Road 146 west of Lake Brownwood. Lake Bridge VFD, Bangs VFD and tanker trucks responded to the scene. Firefighters initially reported a possible oil field tank battery to be near the flames. The property also had several railroad cars which appeared to be involved or very near the fire.
By 4:40pm, firefighters had the flames under control and were “mopping up” the area. The fire reportedly started while the property was being shredded.
Residents in the county are cautioned about elevated fire danger during the hot and dry weather.
