The Lake Brownwood Lions Club held its annual scholarship banquet and awarded $16,000.00 in scholarships to local graduating seniors on Thursday evening, May 2nd. The banquet was attended by students and their families, and the meal was catered by Cook’s Fish Barn. The scholarships are funded through the club’s Bingo nights.
The Lions Club scholarship application was passed out to high schools at the beginning of the year, and recipients were chosen by the Lions Club. This year the recipients come from 23 different area high schools, including: Bangs, Blanket, Brady, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Cherokee, Comanche, Coleman, Cransfill Gap, Cross Plains, Early, Iredell, Lohn, May, Panther Creek, Richland Springs, Rising Star, Rochelle, Santa Anna, Sidney, Star, Victory Life and Zephyr.
In addition to the scholarship banquet, the Lake Brownwood Lions Club works with many other community organizations.“We do everything we can for the community, including sponsoring little league, Meals on Wheels, West Texas Rehab, and more,” said Don Draper, Lions Club member.
