deltalertBrown County recently approved changing the area’s emergency alert system from CodeRed to a new service company called DeltAlert due to a considerable cost savings to the county.

Officials stated that although the change will come with a notable savings, it also comes with a little inconvenience, but that area residents should know that the change will still be a simple change.  Anyone who was registered to receive emergency alerts by telephone though the CodeRed system will now need to register with the new system to continue receiving the alerts.

Brown County Emergency Management Coordinator Brent Bush released the announcement via the CodeRed system Tuesday morning which stated the following:

In an effort to make better use of our tax revenues, Brown County has contracted at considerable savings a new emergency notification and weather warning service.  Unfortunately, this will require those wanting to receive weather warning calls to re-register on the new system.  Please register on the Brown County website www.BrowncountyTX.org and click on the DeltAlert logo.  If you do not have internet access, you can register by calling 325-643-1985 with your information, ask a friend or relative for assistance, or take advantage of the computers at the Brownwood Library.  Thank you for your assistance.

Bush stated that the registration is very simple and can be accessed through Brown County’s website.

He explained the process in an email earlier today with the registration steps:  After accessing the Brown County website and clicking on the “Alert” logo they must first enter some basic information on the right side of the screen under “Not Registered Yet”.  The account must be set up with an e-mail address (even a fictitious one they make up will work) and a password.  That will set up the account and send them to next screen for some basic information (name/phone number).  Each screen will require an “accept terms” box to be checked then wait for the “sign up” box to light up (might take several seconds); click on that at the bottom of each page to move on to the next.  The third page will be the details with address and added phone numbers.  On this third page is where they MUST put a check in the box under the National Weather Service portion of this page to receive the weather warning calls.  Also, under the “Personal Settings” portion of this page is a box to click on to add other phone numbers you wish to have called in severe weather.  Each time you click on this “add voice phone” box, you will be given another blank box for an additional phone number to be called.”

Bush stated that it is very important for all area residents to know that this is a countywide service and you will not be alerted without re-registration.

“DeltAlert opt-in for the weather warning calls is countywide.  Brown County is the subscriber for the weather warnings and that includes Brownwood, Early and Bangs residents,” said Bush.  “They all must enter their info into the new system if they want to receive weather warning calls from National Weather Service.”

When registering, it is important to remember the email address and password that you register with in case information needs to be updated in the future.

“They can go into their account anytime and make those changes but, they must remember to save those changes at the bottom of the page,” said Bush.
