Brownwood Fire Department responded to a fire at Sunset Terrace Apartments Tuesday which started during a remodeling job at approximately 11:20 a.m..
According to Brownwood Fire Chief Del Albright, the fire started when the floor stripping chemical fumes were ignited by the gas water heater.
Brownwood Housing Authority maintenance workers report that the apartment was vacant at the time and is one of several slated for remodeling.
DeLaPaz Roofing and Construction workers were doing the work when the fire ignited; however no injuries were reported at the time of the fire.
Firefighters put out the flames and ventilated the unit which was completely smoke damaged on the bottom floor of the two story unit. The kitchen,
pictured above, was a total loss.
The neighboring apartments were not affected by the fire according to officials on scene. One unit is vacant and the other’s residents are slated
to move out tomorrow, said Housing Authority maintenance men.
