Brownwood News – The annual Southwest Amputee Golf Association Tournament will be held at the Hideout golf course near Lake Brownwood October 12-14th for the third year. Organizers met with Visit Early Texas representatives on Monday, August 13th to discuss the upcoming tournament, a favorite of many.

 

 

“This is one of my favorite events every year and this group is inspirational and I always leave the tournament with a new outlook on life,” said Denise Hudson with the Early Convention and Visitors Bureau. Approximately 50 golfers are expected to participate, with a large attendance of guests as well.

Founded in 1987, Southwest Amputee Golf Association is a non-profit charitable association founded to help amputees get out and discover there is life after a traumatic injury. Golfers range in skill from people who shoot 18 hole scores in the 70s to others shooting around 120. Members include people ranging in age from teenagers to people in their 80s. Both women and men participate and play in their respective flights.

Once known as the Texas Amputees, the organization has merged with the National association, NAGA, to form a region made up of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Louisiana.
