Funeral Services for Anita Smith Thomas, age 91, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 26. 2011 at the Heartland Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Drinkard officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. She passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in a local nursing home.
Anite Rhelda Thomas was born January 25, 1920 in Winchell, Texas to Samuel Soloman and Ruby Dixon Smith. As a young child her family moved to Brownwood where she graduated High School and also graduated from Howard Payne University with a Bachelors degree in home economics. Mrs Thomas worked at Camp Bowie during WW II and was married to Carlos Alton Thomas on May 9, 1941 at Brownwood, Texas. She retired from teaching kindergarden in 1981 in Port Hueneme, California where they had lived over thirty years. Returning to Brownwood in 2001 she attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Sammy Chambers of Coleman, Texas
Preceded in death by her parents, Husband Alton Thomas, her daughter Melissa Murray; two brothers Fernoye Smith and Audis Smith and by a sister Edwena Drinkard.
