Anita was born to Lee Roy Brooks and Louise Cox Brooks on October 15, 1936 in Brady, Texas. She graduated from Brownwood High School where she was involved in the Band. After graduating, Anita married the love of her life, Wayne S. Turner, on June 4, 1955. Wayne and Anita resided in England while he was in the Army. They returned home to Brownwood in 1960 where Anita was the bookkeeper for Turner Office Equipment for thirty one years.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her family, friends and church. Anita will best be remembered as the “stick lady” as she rode through her neighborhood on her bicycle and would pick up sticks and small broken limbs out of yards. Her favorite color was red and she made a point to tell anyone she saw that they were wearing her favorite color.
Anita is survived by her daughters, Donna Sikes and husband, Tom of Brownwood and Susan Cross and husband, Jim of Arlington; her grandchildren, Luke and Samantha Lewis, Thomas and Kayla Sikes, Tami Gibson and Skylar Cross; her sister and brother, Barbara Pittard and husband, Lynn and Roy Brooks and wife, Barbara; sister in law, Joan Jolly; and brother in law, Bill Turner. Also left behind to cherish her memory are four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty five years; parents, Lee Roy and Louise Brooks; brother, James Brooks; and one great grandson.
