The Red Cross is offering a unique opportunity for Central Texans to enhance their disaster preparedness through a series of training courses at the new Brownwood location. Both experienced and brand new volunteers are encouraged to attend the training institute, as these courses are not available on a regular basis. Anyone can apply by stopping by the Brownwood office or calling (325) 658-4409. Applications are due by September 20th.
The Training Institute in Brownwood will offer classes including:
- Disaster Instructor Specialty Training
- ERV: Ready, Set, Roll
- Client Casework
- Client Assistance Systems
- Psychological First Aid
- Financial and Statistical Information
- Shelter Management
Classes are intended for new and current volunteers at the American Red Cross, West Central Texas Chapter.
According to organizers, training such as this is necessary because a disaster can strike at any moment, and the more prepared volunteers the Red Cross has, the better! Some classes are designed for new volunteers, and others will be for seasoned Red Crossers. These courses are not offered frequently, so the Red Cross encourages people to sign up for this unique opportunity. Being trained will allow community members to help serve those crucial roles when disasters strike.
The training will be offered on Saturday, September 28, 2013 – Sunday, September 29, 2013. Overnight accommodations are available. Applications are due by September 20th.
Classes will be offered at the American Red Cross office in Family Services Center, located at 901 Avenue B in Brownwood, Texas 76801.
