Funeral Services for Alice Charlene Mitchell, age 84, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday February 21, 2011 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel, with Sterling Lentz and Scottye Ratliff officiating. Interment to follow in Greenleaf Cemetery under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Mitchell passed away Friday February 18, 2011 in Brownwood.
Charlene was born on January 14, 1927 in Salina, Oklahoma to Charles Edward Hahn and Alice (Matlock) Hahn. She attended Daniel Baker College and Northeastern State Teacher College. Charlene married the love of her life Barney Mitchell in 1949, the same year she was employed by Southwestern States Telephone Co. in Brownwood. They moved to San Angelo in 1970 where she worked until she retired from G.T.E. June 16, 1987 after 38 years of telephone employment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barney H. Mitchell in 1992, and two sisters.
Charlene is survived by three step sons, Harvey Mitchell of Ft. Worth, Carrol Mitchell of Quitman, Tx, and Dan Mitchell of Grapevine, Tx; a nephew, Jim Martin and wife Martha of Pryor, Ok; step nephew, Bill W. Swagerty of Brownwood; and numerous cousins.
