Alice Lee Bundick McLaughlin was born on June 16, 1943, to Claude and Alda Bundick and went to meet her Lord Jesus Christ on June 15, 2013, one day prior to her 70th birthday. Just to think about her wonderful birthday party in Heaven gives comfort to her family.

Being the third child of Claude and Alda, she developed a take-charge, mother-hen attitude. She loved her siblings and enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and caring for them. On June 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, Avery Beryl McLaughlin, and together they raised four children, Nathan, Cynthia, Philip, and Gayla.

Alice attended school in Blanket and lived in Blanket most of her adult life, although the final move to Blanket was made in 1972. Alice was a certified nursing assistant for many years, and then decided to get her licensed vocational nursing in 1983. She loved nursing so much she did not stop there, Alice pursued her dream and became a registered nurse in 1988. She retired from Brownwood Regional Medical Center after 35 years of service to the Brownwood community. During her years at the hospital, she met many friends and cared for many people. Working nights for the duration of the time, so she could attend her children’s activities, she supported her children and grandchildren in many endeavors. She took her grandchildren on many trips traveling through the great state of Texas, up to Washington D.C. and Colorado. Summer trips with the grandchildren were a normal activity until Alice could no longer travel and then the local snow cone stand became the “hot spot” for summer travels. Alice, also called grandmother, became best known as Boonie during her later years, a name given to her by her angel boy, J.W. Heard, who was a special gift from heaven after the death of Beryl. J.W. and Boonie shared a relationship that is indescribable and sometimes misunderstood, but as Boonie said many times, “J.W. is my God sent little angel boy.” They took care of each other for many years.

Alice developed strong relationships. The one that she held in highest esteem and treasured more than any thing else was her relationship with God. She had a heavy faith in Jesus Christ which showed in her home, her job, her daily life, and through her children. Her strong faith background came from being raised in a Christian home.

Leaving behind to cherish the wonderful memories of Alice are her children Cynthia Heard and James of Blanket, Gayla McLaughlin also of Blanket, Philip McLaughlin and Sue of Odessa, and daughter-in-law, Vicki McLaughlin of Midland; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Faye Bassham, Eddie Bundick, Ima Martin, Travis Bundick, Lanette Barnum; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Welcoming her to heaven were her spouse Avery Beryl McLaughlin, son Nathan Beryl, daughter Amy Marie, her brothers Milton and Dale Bundick, and her sister Nina Parker.
