Al Edward Kramer, born in New York on June 3rd, 1932, went to his eternal home on Sunday, June 24, 2012 surrounded by his family.
During his 35 years in Brownwood, he served as Director of Personnel for Kohler Co., President of St. Mary’s Parish Council on 3 separate occasions, President of St. Mary’s Men’s Club and Advisory Board member for Christ the King Retreat Center. He was Vice Chairman of the West Central Texas Workforce Development Board and Director of Central Texas Private Industry Council.
He was director/board member of the Chamber of Commerce, Brown County Historical Museum, Depot Cultural and Library Board. He was a past president of the United Way, Community Concert Association, and Cultural Affairs Commission.
He served Brownwood on the Civil Service Commission for over 25 years during which time he also acted as a board member.
In retirement he acted as Volunteer Service Officer for the Center of Life Resources which serves the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Communities.
He was an honored by the J.C.’s as Man of the Year and was an honorary member of the Brownwood Mafia. In 2011 he was chosen as Volunteer of the Year.
Funeral Mass services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, June 29, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, with a rosary service beginning at 7:00pm.
Mr. Kramer is survived by his wife Terry and their children: Stephen Kramer of Houston; Greg Kramer of Houston, and his wife Ramona; Lt. Col. Richard Kramer of Grand Prairie, and his wife Iris; James Kramer of The Colony, TX, and his wife Suzanne; Mary Perkins of Ft. Worth, and her husband Greg; and Theresa Wolff of New Orleans, and her husband Scott. Also their 13 grandchildren: Tiffany Walters, Elsie Kramer, Chelsea Stephens, Stephen Kramer, Cara Popernick, Jacob Kramer, David Kramer, Michael Kramer, Mathew Kramer, James Kramer, Stephanie Perkins, Addison Perkins, Sarah Wolff and Garrett Wolff. As well as 2 great-grandchildren; Hailey Walters and Rebecca Walters.
Although he is no longer with us, his family’s hope is that his example of service and fidelity remains as a beacon to others…….Pass it on.
