A.J. Dickerson, 76, of Early, went Home on Monday, June 9, 2014, in Brownwood. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 12, 2014, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Edmund Wheelis will officiate the services. Mr. Dickerson will be laid to rest in Wolf Valley Cemetery, outside of May, following the funeral service. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 5:00-7:00pm.
A. J. Dickerson was born on December 18, 1937, in Holder, TX, to Willie Thomas and Edna Perlie (Jones) Dickerson. He graduated from May High School and went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Howard Payne University, as part of graduating class of 1961. A. J. was a proud May Tiger, a loyal HPU Yellow Jacket, and a dyed in the wool Democrat. A. J. was a lifelong resident of the Brown County area and a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church. He taught school for many years as well as working with the Texas Department Health and Human Services, after retiring from teaching. He belonged to several organizations including the Texas Public Employees Association and the Texas State Teachers Association. Most recently, A. J. was a volunteer with the Brownwood Regional Medical Center’s Hospital Auxiliary. A. J. was a loving son, a caring uncle, a loyal friend, and devout in his Christian Faith. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all that knew him.
A.J. was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Thomas and Edna Pearlie Dickerson; his brother, Billy Joe Dickerson, and two sisters, Euda Vee Wood and Syble Murray.
A. J. is survived by his sister, Marie Lancaster; his sister-in-law, Billie Ann Dickerson; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
