NichollsRichardElbertBrown County Sheriff’s Deputy received a report of an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Thursday which led to the arrest of a 30-year-old Brownwood man for the alleged crime along with several other charges.

Approximately 4:20pm, Brown County Sheriff’s deputies began looking for the suspect, Richard Elbert Nicholls.  According to the report, one deputy went to a residence on Gordon Road to talk with the victim, his mother, who stated that Nicholls assaulted her by “striking her with his hands, kicking her, and at one point during the assault, brandished a kitchen knife.”  The victim reported that Nicholls grabbed her by the throat, lifted her off the ground and then threw her to the ground before taking her car keys.  When the victim attempted to call law enforcement for help, she stated that Nicholls grabbed her cell phone and broke it, then left in her vehicle without permission, the report states.

The deputy did observe fresh abrasions and bruises that were consistent with being grabbed as the victim described, according to the report.

The report also states that when the deputy began to arrest Nicholls, he resisted arrest and began yelling to his girlfriend, who was sitting in the car, “not to say anything to the cops.”  After Nicholls was in custody, the deputy was given consent to search Nicholls room in his mother’s house where the deputy found drug paraphernalia, the report states.

Nicholls was arrested on several charges, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault Family Violence by Occlusion, Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Interfere with Emergency Call and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  As of Friday morning, Nicholls remained in the Brown County Jail.
