Bangs Chief of Police Troy Grusendorf resigned Thursday afternoon after an investigation was opened into possible misconduct according to Bangs Mayor Eric Bishop.
Bishop confirmed that Grusendorf presented a letter of resignation prior to a special called meeting of the Bangs City Council to consider his termination due to lack of confidence and misconduct.
“I discovered over a course of the past month that the chief of police had a city employee that was under his supervision doing work at his new residence, a rental property, while they were being paid by the City of Bangs,” said Bishop. “This is unacceptable for anyone in government, but especially by someone I am depending on to enforce the law.”
Bishop explained that he had planned to bring the matter of misconduct before the council in a specially called meeting to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday; however, Grusendorf tendered his resignation at 3:21 p.m. instead and the meeting was cancelled.
The investigation of misconduct is ongoing; however, Bishop stated he did not expect any other city employees to be “in trouble.” He stated, “He (Grusendorf) was the supervisor and one having this done.”
No chief of police has been appointed to replace Grusendorf at this time, according to Bishop. The City will be taking applications for the position and plans to hire a new chief soon. This resignation of Grusendorf leaves the city with two patrol officers.
