Adrian Bartlett Wilcoxen, age 88, of Lake Brownwood, Texas passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014 in Brownwood, Texas. Cremation is under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Adrian was born on August 26, 1926 in Putnam, Texas to Calvin Morgan and Nancy Lee Ashabranner Wilcoxen. He attended Cedar Bluff Grade School in Cottonwood, Texas until 1940 where he and his family peanut farmed. From 1943 until 1945 Adrian was employed by Kimbell and Castel Grocery Company in Abilene where he drove a two ton truck hauling groceries to clientel in the vicinity of Abilene and also operated a 1,000 acre farm planting, cultivating, and harvesting corn, cane, and small grain crops until he joined the United States Army on February 23, 1945. Adrian proudly served our country for twenty three months in Saipan, Guam and the Aleutian Islands. Twelve of these months, were in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on January 5, 1947 and was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. On April 8, 1949 he was married to Opal Kathleen Cagle in Albany, Texas and started his career with Lone Star Gas that same year. He worked his way up from a laborer to Superintendant of seven plants until he retired on April 1, 1987. Adrian enjoyed hunting, traveling, fishing and the love of God.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Wilcoxen of Lake Brownwood; four children Rickey Bartlett Wilcoxen and wife Dee of Panhandle, Texas, Michael Dwayne Wilcoxen and wife Betty of Kirvin, Texas, Kathy Ann Moore and husband Truett of Brownwood, Texas, Opal Marcia Wilcoxen of Manor, Texas Six Grandchildren, 4 Step-Grandchildren and nine Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister Stella Avery and one brother Lawrence Wilcoxen.
