A local insurance company is cleaning up and dealing with a claim of their own after a Toyota Highlander crashed into their office on Fisk Street Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at 10:00 a.m. as Richard Porter was sitting at his desk conversing with an employee who was standing in front of the desk. The SUV entered the Porter’s front corner office approximately 5-6 feet, according to Porter.
No injuries were reported although the female driver of the vehicle, two dogs and one cat were quite shaken up after the accident. Being in the process of moving and having no one locally to call for help or transportation, a Brownwood Police officer took the driver along with her belongings and animals to her home, said law enforcement officials.
The cause of the accident was said to be contributed to “distraction within the vehicle,” and that there was no indication of alcohol or drugs, that the driver was simply distraught and in shock after the accident, according to Brownwood Police officials.
Mr. Porter stated that he and his employee were very lucky, “It’s fortunate we weren’t hurt at all, although it kind of exploded the office,” said Porter as he joked, “this is one way to make you clean off your desk.”
Porter Insurance remained open; in fact, Richard Porter was working on email as the cleanup crews were bagging up the rubble and preparing to board up the wall that once had a large window. Three chairs within the office were demolished along with a wall and bookshelf between Porter’s office and foyer.
Porter stated that he believed the driver had insurance and that the repairs would be made as soon as possible.
