The excitement of the first week of school was heightened at Brownwood Middle School, as 8th graders were issued a new piece of equipment, a Macbook laptop. 249 laptops were checked out to an enthusiastic group of students.
“I already see positive changes,” said Principal, Bryan Allen.
“There is a great sense of pride that the students display for having them. It’s too soon to tell for sure, but I think we’re going to have more responsible students, because they want to do everything they can to not lose privileges with the laptops.”
Middle School teachers received their Macbooks in the fall of 2009, and many have already incorporated the student laptops into their classes.
Eight grade technology instructor, Janis Holland was beaming with excitement about the new laptops. “It opens up so many doors for the students that we never had,” she said. “It’s fun. I love it.”
“While the teacher is still without a doubt the most important factor in the student receiving a quality education, there is no question that this initiative will have a positive impact on the preparation our students will receive,” said Mr. Allen.
With the Connections Grant that BISD just received, it is anticipated that the 7th grades will receive laptops by Christmas break.
