Brownwood News – The Brownwood Police Department recently issued a statement with an update on the 7 month old victim in a March 5th assault. The child has died from injuries sustained during the incident.
“It is with great sadness that I report that the baby boy referenced in our initial investigation has passed away. Our hearts go out to the family and all involved in this tragic event,” Assistant Police Chief James Fuller said in the release. The investigation is still ongoing.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at approximately 6:00pm, Brownwood Police, Brownwood Fire and Life Guard EMS were called to an apartment in the 300blk of Bluffview for a medical emergency involving a child. The 7 month old male child was transported to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center and later flown to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth in critical condition.
During the course of this investigation, the mother’s boyfriend was arrested on charges unrelated to the investigation. Evan Williford, 21yrs old, of Brownwood was transported to the Brown County Jail and charged with Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone.
On Thursday, March 7th, a warrant charging Evan Travis Williford with Injury to a Child (Serious Bodily Injury) was issued by Justice of the Peace Jim Cavanaugh. Williford remains in the Brown County Jail and no bond was set for the warrant. Injury to a Child causing serious bodily injury is a first degree felony.
