Early ISD, Early High School Band, and Early Band Boosters Club will host the 6th Annual Heart of Texas Marching Festival, a pre-UIL contest on Saturday, October 11th at Early Longhorn Stadium. Twenty-six high school bands region-wide are scheduled to perform during the event to show off their marching skills.
The public is invited to attend this event. Admission to the contest is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Early High School band director Rob Chapleau explained that this competition offers a great opportunity for its contestants.
“It represents a chance for those bands attending UIL in Early the following week to practice on the same venue a week early,” Chapleau stated. “Spectator and participant capacity is expected to be between 2000-3000 people.”
Judges for the event are Brent Colwell (Temple College), Barry Hurt (Pagosa Springs, CO), Kirk Woolery (Granbury, TX), Dillon Phillips — Percussion Caption Judge, and Ken McLellan — Visual/Guard Caption Judge.
According to its organizers, this contest has been designed to give bands the opportunity to perform at the UIL Contest Site as well as receive critiques from highly qualified judges on how to improve the marching show before this year’s UIL contest. Early High School will be performing at 3:45, Bangs High School at 4: 00 and Brownwood High School at 5:45.
The HPU Yellow Jacket Marching Band will be giving an exhibition performance at the conclusion of the event at 6:00.
