NNOLogo2011.Residents across Brown County are getting set for the area’s second National Night Out event on October 4th, and there will be dozens of neighborhoods participating this year.

As of Friday, 60 block parties are scheduled to take place across the county to help heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

City and county officials, law enforcement officers, fire departments, and Guardian EMS will travel to the block parties to meet with residents during the event.

An added component to this year’s National Night Out in Brown County is a canned food drive.  Residents attending block parties are encouraged to bring canned goods to their neighborhood gatherings.  All food collected will benefit Good Samaritan Ministries.

The party with the most food collected will receive a special recognition at a later date.

Block captains have been sending out invitations to neighbors with specific block party information.  The recommended time to hold a block party on October 4th is 5:30-8:30pm.  For more information about National Night Out and neighborhood block parties, contact Officer Chandra Means at the Brownwood Police Department at 325-643-9520.

Local participating sponsors for the 2011 National Night Out include Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, WT Harris Company, ATMOS Energy, Oncor Electric Delivery, Southside Church, TexasBank, and Waldrop Construction
