BrownwoodNews – As part of its ongoing Home Fire Campaign, the American Red Cross partnered with TexasBank and the Early Volunteer Fire Department last weekend to Sound the Alarm on home fire safety in an effort to reduce death and injury caused by home fires.
More than 20 volunteers from all three organizations installed 346 free smoke alarms and provided home fire safety education in 153 homes in the Early area. If residents still need smoke alarms they may request them by calling 325.677.2622.
Since launching the Home Fire Campaign in 2014, volunteers and members of 4,400 partner organizations have installed more than 1.5 million smoke alarms, reached nearly 1.2 million kids through youth preparedness programs and helped create more than 590,000 home fire escape plans.

“We are thrilled that we had a successful day installing almost 350 free smoke alarms and making 153 homes safer in the Early area,” said Kari Hennagin, executive director, American Red Cross Texas Big Country. “On behalf of the Red Cross, I want to thank TexasBank and the Early Volunteer Fire Department for partnering with us on this lifesaving project. The importance of working smoke alarms cannot be understated and as a longtime Red Cross employee I’m proud of the ongoing work and impact of the Sound the Alarm campaign.”
More than 511 lives have been saved in home fires in which the Red Cross had previously installed free smoke alarms, including seven in the North Texas Region.
In North Texas, from July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018, the Red Cross installed more than 9,500 free smoke alarms and made 3,500 homes safer. The Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters every year, the majority of which are home fires.
